Careers Information

CEIAG at Quarrydale helps and prepares all Quarrydale pupils to make the next step about their future.

In Quarrydale we have:
• Mock Interviews
• Enterprise/Team Building Days
• University and HE college talks and visits
• Visits from local businesses
• Tutor time activities
• Work Experience for Year 12s
• Up to date Careers Information Library

WE DO NOT DO WORK EXPERIENCE IN YEAR 10 SCHOOL TIME.    If your child wants to do work experience it has to be in the school holidays, arranged by themselves and parents have to take full responsibility.

Baker Clause Policy Statement

Quarrydale Academy uses the Gatsby Benchmarks and the CDi Framework as a guide to plan our Careers and PSHE programmes. As part of our commitment to informing our students of the full range of learning and training pathways on offer to them, we are happy to consider requests from training, apprenticeship and vocational education providers to speak to students.

Quarrydale Academy also proactively seeks to build relationships with partners as we plan our Careers activities throughout the school year to ensure that providers have multiple opportunities to speak to students and their parents across years 7-11, to offer information on vocational, technical and apprenticeship qualifications and pathways. Quarrydale Academy ensures that Academy staff involved in personnel guidance and pastoral support are up to date on their knowledge of these post 16 and post 18 pathways, through a programme of Continuing Professional Development.

Opportunities for providers to speak with students may include school assemblies, employer and provider engagement events or opportunities to speak with students and parents on a one-to-one basis supporting GCSE and post 16 option choices. Quarrydale Academy’s Careers and PSHE programmes are monitored for quality and impact.

In the first instance, requests by providers should be sent to the Academy’s Strategic Lead Steven Cooper at scooper@quarrydale.notts.sch.uk or Careers Leader Kim Dellar at kdellar@quarrydale.notts.sch.uk with a minimum of 6 weeks lead time.

PAL – STATUTORY GUIDANCE FOR PROVIDER ACCESS LEGISLATION

Following the governments January 2023 updated statutory requirements for schools. Quarrydale will provide learners with a minimum of six encounters during their time in education with providers of approved technical education qualifications and apprenticeships.

Two encounters for pupils during the ‘first key phase’ (year 8 or 9) that are mandatory for all pupils to attend, to take place any time during year 8 or between 1 September and 28 February during year 9. Two encounters for pupils during the ‘second key phase’ (year 10 or 11) that are mandatory for all pupils to attend, to take place any time during year 10 or between 1 September and 28 February during year 11. Two encounters for pupils during the ‘third key phase’ (year 12 or 13) that are mandatory for the school to put on but optional for pupils to attend, to take place any time during year 12 or between 1 September and 28 February during year 13. Schools should encourage all pupils to attend the encounters, however, optional attendance for older pupils recognises that, while many 16- to- 18-year-olds will benefit from finding out more about post-18 technical options, some will be in the sixth form having made a firm decision to pursue their chosen pathway.

All pupils will have the same opportunities for meaningful provider encounters. Pupils with special education needs and disabilities, looked after children, pupils with ESL and pupils from Travelling communities will have additional support as and when required.

Schools will ensure the provider provides information to pupils through assemblies, 1to1 careers meetings, class presentations, mock interviews, cross curriculum lessons, careers fairs, trips and visits. They will work with companies, DANCOP, CEC, D2N2, local colleges and universities and apprenticeship providers.

At Quarrydale we want our students to achieve their goals.

Our School Governor responsible for Careers is DEBORAH WILSON dwilson@quarrydale.notts.sch.uk

We are also working with the D2N2 framework developing links with local businesses and our Business Advisor is MR PETER ROBERTS Managing Director of Collis Engineering.

We are also working with Notts County Council and the Careers Local Funding.

We’ve put together a list of new apprenticeships currently available across the country, including digital marketer, florist and IT support technician.

If your students love geography, there is a range of careers open to them, from travel consultant to air traffic controller.

Each month we will look at companies and learning providers who deliver apprenticeships and look at what they can offer future apprentices. This month it’s Royal Mail.
